Interview Tips
At Ardent Pub Group, we welcome people from all walks of life. The only non-negotiable? A genuine love of great hospitality and giving our guests and your fellow colleagues the warmest possible welcome.
Before the Interview
Know the role:
Read the job description carefully and think about how your experience—hospitality or otherwise—shows you’d be a great match. Revisit the key details (salary, shifts, location) to ensure everything aligns with what you’re looking for.
Check us out:
Spend some time on our Instagram, website and careers page to get a real sense of our pubs, our people and our menus. The more specific you can be when chatting to the hiring manager, the better.
Understand our values:
Leading with conviction; giving the greatest welcome, building pubs with purpose and pursuing quality without compromise. We love meeting candidates who naturally connect with those ideas.
Dress the part (if, in person):
Your interview or trial invite will mention any dress expectations, so you look and feel the part.
During the Interview / Observation Shift
Be yourself:
We want to get to know you—your personality, enthusiasm for pubs and passion for making people feel welcome. Let that shine through.
Bring examples:
Think of moments when you’ve solved a tricky guest situation, supported a teammate or gone above and beyond. Real stories help us picture you in the role.
Ask questions:
Curiosity shows you care. Ask about the team, training, development or anything else you’d like to know about working with us.
What to Expect Next
Your first interview will usually take place over the phone, giving us both a chance to have an open and relaxed conversation. For management roles, the first stage is more likely to be in person so you can meet the team and get a sense of the environment.
If you’re successful, the next step is typically an observation shift (or trial shift). This is your chance to experience the pace, personality and atmosphere of our pubs first-hand, and for us to see how you interact with guests and colleagues.
For more specialist managerial or administrative roles, the next stage may be a second-round interview instead, focusing on leadership, operations or technical skills relevant to the position.
